ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Born and raised in the Youngstown area of Eastern Ohio, Jessi Clayton began painting while still a small child. An identical twin, she has often struggled with her own identity, seeking solace and therapy in artistic expression. At a young age she discovered early twentieth century surrealists such as Marc Chagall and Salvador Dali, allowing her to realize that her vision and imagination could be appreciated. Her deeply personal, metaphoric and psychologically expressive pieces evoke many of the sentiments of those early inspirations, as well as those of contemporary influences such as Mark Ryden and Jamali. A graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design, Clayton recently relocated to Austin, Texas, where she works full time on private commissions and preparing a new collection for her first Texas show.
